Leeds United news: Pundit drops ‘huge’ verdict after source’s ‘devastating’ reveal
Leeds United’s star players could seek an exit from the club if they do not get promoted.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Rangers defender Alan Hutton feared that the likes of Crysencio Summerville won’t want to spend another year in the second tier and may look to leave Elland Road.
Well-placed sources have also told Football Insider (12 April) that the Whites are close to the limit of financial regulations and will be forced to sell star players this summer after suffering a “devastating” £34million loss in their 2022-23 accounts.
Daniel Farke’s side looked well-placed to earn an immediate return to the Premier League in an automatic spot, but after winning just one point in their last three games, this is under major threat.
Leeds United stars to be ‘picked off’ if they fail to earn promotion
Hutton was confident that many top-flight sides will attempt to “pick off” Leeds’ best players this summer if they stay in the Championship.
“It will be interesting,” he told Football Insider.
“They’re all geared to go back into the Premier League and they have a squad that could compete better than some of the other teams that are already there.
“If they can add to that too when they go up, they could be a huge force.
“The flip side, if they only make the play-off and they don’t get promoted, will they have to sell off some of their players?
“Most likely.

“A lot of their players, the likes of Summerville, want to play at the highest level and could look to make a move.
“Other teams will likely try to pick them off.”
