Leeds United news: Pundit fumes at ‘ridiculous’ Southampton ticket controversy
Leeds United are “ridiculous” for charging Southampton fans £47 for away tickets to Elland Road on the last day of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie slammed the Yorkshire giants for charging travelling Saints fans £17 more than away Leeds fans paid for their tickets to St Mary’s back in September.
Daniel Farke’s side will face Southampton on the final day of the season next month (4 May) – a game which could be crucial to the Whites’ automatic promotion hopes.
The Premier League cap away ticket prices at £30, but the second tier currently does not have any similar measures despite frequent calls from fanbases.
Leeds United slaughtered for ‘ridiculous’ ticket pricing
Clubs in the Championship often agree to equal ticket prices for away fans and Leeds reportedly offered a reciprocal £15 to the Saints earlier this season- a fee that was deemed too low by Russell Martin’s side.
However, McAvennie was adamant that tickets for away games should be equal for all fans and was baffled that Leeds would charge such prices for the crucial clash
“What Leeds are thinking is that they’re going to get [Southampton] supporters in no matter what they charge,” he told Football Insider.
“You might charge your own supporters 40-odd quid, but I don’t get it.
“I don’t get why they want to put the prices up on the last game of the season.
“You want the stadium full and you want to give respect to Southampton and their crowd.
“They’re charging them more – it’s not right.
“It should be the same all around.

“It’s the same game, the same set of players and in the same stadium.
“It’s ridiculous, I don’t agree with Leeds.”
