Leeds United news: Pundit savages ‘terrible’ Patrick Bamford after what he saw
Patrick Bamford’s work rate was “terrible” for Leeds United in their 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (13 April).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie slammed Bamford, 30, for his “awful” 22-minute outing from the bench as he continually “strolled about” and failed to try reclaiming possession.
The Englishman has not bagged a single goal in his last six league outings for the Whites – five starts and one substitute appearance from the bench against Rovers.
His form had been impressive between January and March, having scored seven goals in his 10 league appearances since New Year’s Day, but many Leeds fans have become fed up with his wasteful finishing and lacklustre displays.
Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford was ‘awful’ against Blackburn
McAvennie urged Bamford to “get his act together” ahead of Leeds’ promotion-deciding run-in as he needs to be the main man up top for Daniel Farke’s side.
“I didn’t see that defeat coming,” he told Football Insider.
“I thought Leeds would kick on.
“Bamford looked awful.
“I watched him and he was just strolling about – he looked terrible.
“I don’t like seeing strikers strolling about like that.
“He missed a few big chances in the game and I was thinking that if his mind was on the game, he wouldn’t have missed them.
“He’s got to get his act together because he’s the focal point for Leeds at the moment.
“There’s a lot of good players and they’re creating chances for him.

“Bamford needs to start leading the line and start holding up the ball.
“He was losing the ball a lot and not fighting hard enough to win it back – that was the biggest problem.”
