Leeds United news: Pundit shares Daniel James verdict after ‘big’ blow – ‘Hard to take’
Leeds United star Daniel James will take a huge “boost” from his goal against Hull City on Monday (1 April).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton suggested that James, 26, would have been devastated after missing the crucial penalty in the shoot-out for Wales against Poland which meant they failed to qualify for Euro 2024 last week (26 March).
The winger has been a mainstay for Daniel Farke’s title-chasing side this season and a regular for his nation, but scuppered the all-important final penalty for the Dragons.
However, he quickly responded with a sensational long-range goal near the halfway line against the Tigers in the closing seconds of the game to secure a 3-1 win for Leeds.
Leeds United star Dan James “lifted” after sensational Hull goal
Hutton was sure that James would have found missing Wales’ vital spot-kick “hard to take”, but was adamant that he would not let it impact his league form.
“You have to feel for somebody when, in such a big pressure situation, you miss a penalty,” he told Football Insider.
“You feel for him and it must be so hard to take.
“The best thing is to come back, get your head down and keep working.
“When you score a goal like that [against Hull City], it will lift you.
“He has so many attributes and he gives you something different that others can’t.
“When he made the big move to Man United, you think that maybe it was a bit too early.
“But now it looks like he’s thriving at Leeds and playing with confidence.

“You have to be confident to take an effort from there!
“That will give him the boost he needs from now until the end of the season.”
