Leeds United news: Pundit shares emphatic promotion prediction – ‘It’s happened before’
Leeds United must sign experienced players this summer if they earn promotion back to the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie urged the Whites to learn from their past mistakes by altering their transfer policy and tactics in the top flight.
Daniel Farke’s second-place side look well-placed for promotion at the first time of asking on the back of a 12-game unbeaten run in the Championship.
In their summer and winter transfer windows before relegation, they signed the likes of Georginio Rutter, Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca and Luis Sinisterra – none of whom thrived or helped avoid the drop.
Leeds United must “learn from past mistakes” if promoted
While many of these stars have since come good, McAvennie was adamant that their new batch of recruits must have Premier League experience under their belt.
“Let me tell you this, I think Leeds will learn from last time,” he told Football Insider.
“They need to bring in experienced players if they get promoted.
“They might bring in a few flair players, but they need Premier League experience.
“Sometimes you need to sit back and not try to go for it and lose.
“That’s where they fell short last time so it’s happened before.
“They weren’t ever trying to take a point and move on, they were leaving spaces at the back and getting undone.

“Even though it’s a different manager now, they’ll look at their past and learn from it.
“It’s so important in the Premier League.”
