Leeds United news: Pundit ‘shocked’ by Raphinha development – ‘Huge’
Leeds United should have negotiated a sell-on clause on former star Raphinha’s move to Barcelona.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie admitted that he was “shocked” the Whites didn’t and claimed they will now be regretting the decision.
Raphinha, 27, moved to the La Liga giants in 2022 for a reported £55million, but sources have told Football Insider (26 March) that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are willing to offer Barca up to £86million for his services this summer.
The Brazil international became a star at Elland Road during his two-year spell, but his mega-money move to Barcelona has not proved fruitful.
Leeds United made “huge” mistake with Raphinha deal
McAvennie was baffled that Leeds did not negotiate a sell-on clause and claimed they may lose a “huge” financial boost if Raphinha is sold.
“Of course, Leeds will be hugely regretting not putting in a sell-on clause,” he told Football Insider.
“You should always put it in just in case!
“I’m shocked that they didn’t.
“Barcelona might have said that he won’t be leaving, but still put the clause in.
“It’s a strange one, but that’s what a good director of football does.

“They cross every T and dot every I, so it’s a real shame.
“The money that they could have got could’ve been huge.”
