Leeds United nurturing Archie Gray ‘very carefully’ after ‘big’ reveal – Whelan

Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Archie Gray as the Leeds United starlet begins to establish himself in the club’s under-23s.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Whites ambassador claimed the 16-year-old can be “a catalyst” for Jesse March’s side in future years.

Gray opened his account for Leeds’ under-23s with a spectacular effort in a 3-0 win over Manchester United.

As quoted by Leeds Live (16 March), Marsch acknowledged the “massive anticipation” surrounding Gray.

He hailed the midfielder “a big talent” with an “incredible bloodline.”

Archie Gray looks set to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Frank and uncle Eddie, both of whom enjoyed illustrious careers at Elland Road.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Russell Edge for his thoughts on Gray’s progression, Whelan said: “He is one to watch.

“He’s just 16 years of age and is playing with a confidence and quality that runs through the great family.

“It seems like he’s the next one to be a catalyst to take Leeds United forward. He’s got quality, calmness, composure and you can see he has great technique with the finish from outside the box. A player that believes in his ability and is not afraid.

“They will be nurturing him very carefully and rightly so. He is playing in the under-23s at 16 years of age and he is not out of place there.

“A really exciting young player. He is going in the right direction and he has a good DNA behind him.”
