Stuart Dallas’ agent will want to squeeze more money from Leeds United even as the club eyes a bumper new contract extension.
That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed Leeds are set to open talks with Dallas.
The 30-year-old could be offered a deal that would double his £20,00-a-week pay packet.
Dallas has earned a reputation as a jack-of-all-trades for Leeds, playing in multiple roles for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in 2020-21.
He is yet to miss a match for the Whites in the Premier League this season and the club is keen to reward him with fresh terms.
Phillips claimed that a £40,000-a-week is a fair deal but that Dallas’ representatives will still demand more.
“He’s 30, so I think that money is about right,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“It’s still mega-money to double his wages, but his agent will still be asking for more.
“They’ll say there are similar players on £50,000 or £60,000 and that he should be up there. But £40,000 is probably about right.
“But let’s not forget that’s just his basic wage. There will probably be another £10,000 for appearances and other bonuses.
“There will certainly be more money made available to him in terms of other ways of earning it.”
Dallas played as a right-midfielder as Leeds lost 2-0 to Brighton on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, Leeds have a fighting chance of a top-half finish and occupy 11th place with four matches remaining.
