Leeds United plan to sign ‘major upgrade’ on star player who left fans raging

Leeds United have endured a difficult start to the season so far and are already facing growing fears of relegation at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side lost 2-0 to Burnley last time out, adding to their woes as they dropped to 16th in the Premier League with two wins, two draws and four defeats so far.

The defeat against a fellow newly-promoted sided has led to growing concerns, particularly given their lack of clinical edge despite creating numerous chances.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 7 September that Leeds are concerned about their attacking options, and could look to bolster their squad in January.

However, there are a number of positions Farke would like to strengthen in the mid-season window, and multiple players could soon be fighting for their places.

Daniel Farke plans to upgrade on Brenden Aaronson

One player who let Leeds down against Burnley was Brenden Aaronson, who missed a massive chance and has been widely criticised by the supporters.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Leeds see the U.S.A international as somebody they could improve upon.

Leeds were open to letting Aaronson leave in the summer amid links with moves for new attacking midfielders including Bilal El Khannouss before they missed out.

Aaronson is already proving to be an issue for Leeds,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He was with them in the Premier League before, wasn’t good enough, and they got relegated.

“The fans weren’t happy with him then, but he’s worked his way back into their good books.

“Then he impressed in the Championship last season and everybody starts to think he’s back to his best and maybe he can do it in the Premier League after all.

“That’s a problem Leeds have had this season, a lot of their players are Championship standard.

“Of course, with any newly promoted team that’s going to be the case, but these are the types of players they have to be looking for major upgrades on.

“I think that will be the case with Aaronson in January, they’ll look to upgrade in his position.

“If you look at Sunderland, they’ve recruited brilliantly and are reaping the rewards, and Burnley know their limitations and so they play to their strengths.

“For Leeds, if they want to stay up and play in their style, they have to improve the squad.”

Aaronson has had a difficult start in the Premier League, and the Burnley game was tipped as his final chance to impress, with concerns growing about his form.

Leeds United set sights on signing a new striker

Alongside their ambitions to upgrade on a number of key players at Elland Road, Brown told Football Insider that Leeds are planning to sign a new striker.

The Peacocks are desperate to land a new forward to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been disappointing in front of goal since arriving in the summer.

The “bizarre” decision to sign Calvert-Lewin during the summer has been widely criticised given his lack of conviction in front of goal, with Leeds left scrambling.

Brown warned Football Insider on 16 September that Leeds are in big trouble as a result of their lack of firepower and are at growing risk of being relegated.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 14 September that Leeds are planning to sign a new striker and winger when the mid-season window opens.
