Leeds United plan to sign new striker amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s dip in form

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent lack of scoring form has underlined Leeds United‘s desire to sign a new striker in the summer window if they stay in the Premier League.

Calvert-Lewin has scored 10 Premier League goals for Leeds so far this season, but just one of those has come in his last nine top flight appearances.

The 29-year-old has earned a call-up to the England squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, yet the Whites feel like they need another striker for him to compete with ahead of next season.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Leeds are planning to sign a new centre-forward if they survive being relegated from the Premier League.

Leeds’ transfer plans will hinge on which league they are in for 2026-27, especially with Joel Piroe’s future seeming uncertain if they do stay up.

Leeds still want another striker to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Aside from Calvert-Lewin, fellow Whites striker Piroe has failed to score in 13 league appearances this season, while summer signing Lukas Nmecha has six goals in 24 top flight outings up to now.

The England forward’s lack of goals in recent weeks has coincided with Leeds’ own poor form, and Daniel Farke remains keen to bolster his striker depth this summer if his side can stave off relegation to the second tier.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I think whatever was happening with Calvert-Lewin, the plan was always for Leeds to strengthen their attacking options (in the summer).

“They looked in January to see if there was anybody they could bring in to bolster their attacking options. Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation since his move to Elland Road on a free last summer.

“He’s obviously had a bit of a dip in form, not scored in four games for Leeds, but they haven’t scored in three of those. Goalscoring has been an issue for Leeds in that respect.

“If they stay up this season, I’m sure they’ll be looking to build on what they’ve achieved, and they will be looking to bring in attacking reinforcements. There’s no doubts about that.”

Leeds are behind Celtic in the race to sign Kasper Hogh

One of the strikers that Leeds have been linked to ahead of the summer window is Bodo/Glimt’s Hogh, who has been a standout in the Champions League and helped fire the Norwegian side to the round of 16 stage.

The 25-year-old scored five times in six UCL appearances before Bodo were knocked out by Sporting CP, and has attracted the attention of several bigger clubs as a result.

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic are more likely to sign Hogh than Leeds as both clubs chase his services, despite the Elland Road club being able to offer better wages.

Hogh reportedly wishes to continue playing in the Champions League if he is to leave Bodo, and the Hoops will be able to offer that if they finish in the top two of the Scottish Premiership this season.
