Leeds United risk points deduction as £70m news revealed – sources
Leeds United are under pressure to make a payment of £70million to cover outstanding transfer fees, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that there are worries at Elland Road that they could breach the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Leeds will remain in the Championship for 2024-25 after losing 1-0 to Southampton in last weekend’s play-off final at Wembley.
The Yorkshire side are now under pressure to comply with financial regulations with their allowable losses set to drop to £61million for their next accounting period.
Chairman Paraag Marathe warned that “sacrifices will have to be made” this summer to ensure the club can comply with financial rules.
As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds are now under pressure to recoup £150million in player sales this summer.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said: “Obviously it’s worrying times for Leeds – it is a necessity to sell players.

“The chairman’s been quite open and honest about that.
“Otherwise they could find themselves breaching PSR and that’s the last thing Leeds United want right now is a points deduction to go on top of potentially losing their best players as well.
“I’m sure they have plans in place for whatever happened on Sunday, whether they won promotion or they didn’t win promotion, there will have been two lists of transfer targets.
“But they do need to get money into the club as they are still yet to pay outstanding transfer fees for all the players that they’ve signed in recent times.

“I think that works out at around £70million which must be paid by a certain date.
“So in the background, it’s worrying that they could be in breach of PSR.“
