Leeds United set cash aside for striker deal – sources

Leeds United will back Daniel Farke with the funds to sign a new striker in January amid links with Sunderland’s Eliezer Mayenda, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed a move for Mayenda, 19, is unlikely with Sunderland unwilling to strengthen a potential promotion rival.

Daniel Farke’s side have managed to secure two consecutive 2-0 wins over fellow Yorkshire sides Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City following a frustrating start to life back in the Championship.

Sunderland currently sit at the summit of the Championship table, winning all four of their opening games while only conceding a single goal.

Mayenda has been thrown in at the deed-end at Sunderland following an unsuccessful loan spell at Scottish club Hibernian.

Thankfully for all parties, Mayenda has proven to be a success, scoring two goals and providing two assists in four Championship games.
