Leeds United set to spend big after ‘brilliant’ Will Ferrell news – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested an incoming “cabal of sports celebrities” could help Leeds United spend more in the transfer market.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Whites have got “all the ingredients” for a successful return to the Premier League.
According to the BBC (5 May), actor and Los Angeles FC part-owner Will Ferrell is set to purchase a minor stake in Leeds.
American golf stars Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are already shareholders in 49ers Enterprises – the majority owners at Elland Road.
Leeds face a Championship playoff semi-final against Norwich from Sunday (12 May) to set up a potential final at Wembley against Southampton or West Brom.
Celebrity investment could unlock Leeds transfer war chest, says Wyness
Wyness suggested the new backing could see the Whites spend big if they return to the Premier League.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Will Ferrell has got football pedigree with Los Angeles FC, who he has been involved with for some time now.
“He’s got the knowledge.
“Leeds have got a couple of golfers on board already, including Jordan Speith.
“There’s a cabal of sports celebrities coming in, and it’s going to be brilliant for Leeds.
“The 49ers will be good owners. I remember speaking to someone who came and looked at buying Aston Villa, but it didn’t quite happen.

“We all know Leeds are a big club and deserve to be in the top flight. Getting things right behind the scenes is important, and they’ve got all the ingredients to get promoted even if it’s not this year.
“If they do, with this new backing – they will have no problem spending the money needed to stay up.”
