Whelan issues bold Rodrigo claim after 'brilliant' Leeds display
Rodrigo Moreno put in one of his best performances in a Leeds United shirt in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United last night.
So says Whites ambassador Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Spaniard’s showing at St. James’ Park on 17 September.
The 30-year-old dummied Raphinha’s whipped inswinging cross that gave Marcelo Bielsa’s side the lead after just 13 minutes.
Newcastle restored parity on the stroke of half-time and the scores did not change in the second half.
Leeds, like Steve Bruce’s Newcastle, are without a win after five matches in the Premier League.
But Rodrigo’s showing was the main positive of the evening for the West Yorkshire outfit, claims Whelan.

“Rodrigo had one of the best games he’s had in a Leeds shirt,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“He was instrumental in the goal with a very clever piece of improvisation. That little stepover just deceived the goalkeeper.
“He was the one player who was getting on the ball, making things happen, linking up with Patrick Bamford.
“Other than the goal, the best chance came from his pass to Bamford, who probably should have done better with it.
“He knew exactly what he was doing. He is such a clever, top-quality player. He looked like the player we thought he would be last night.”
Rodrigo signed from Valencia in a club-record £26million deal last summer.
He has three years remaining on his deal at Elland Road.
