Whelan amazed by Radrizzani and Phillips after 'really special' Leeds development
Leeds United are a “family” club once again – and Andrea Radrizzani deserves enormous credit for the transformation.
So says Leeds ambassador Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Kalvin Phillips’ gesture before kick-off in last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool.
The Elland Road favourite displayed a tribute to Sarah Emmott, a young Leeds fan who recently passed away following a battle with a rare kidney disease.
Phillips had come to know Sarah through his community work at the West Yorkshire club.
And Whelan claims the midfielder’s actions are indicative of the culture shift that has taken place during the Radrizzani regime.

“It’s a family at Leeds United,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“For a long time, we’ve not had that at the club under certain owners. But Mr Radrizzani has brought back that love, that passion, that togetherness.
“Players, fans and the board are all working as one. He has really made it a special place to go, he’s brought the pride back both on and off the field.
“We don’t just have great players there, we have good human beings. They understand the values of the club and that’s simply amazing to have.
“The work they do with supporters and people who need help, that’s what makes it such a classy club.
“Radrizzani is a family man himself and he has made the club exactly what it should be.”
