Leeds United title twist: Pundit shocked by development – ‘Can you imagine…’
Leeds United can win the Championship this season thanks to their “excellent” squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton believes the Whites have what it takes to go all the way as the campaign reaches its conclusion.
Daniel Farke’s outfit currently sit second in the league table, one point behind leaders Ipswich Town, with both having played 40 matches.
And Hutton believes there is still time for the West Yorkshire club to come out on top amid a fantastic run of form, with the Whites still unbeaten in 2024.
The pundit is also shocked that Leicester City have dropped into third place, having led the way for the majority of the campaign.
Leeds United can lift the Championship trophy
The Foxes currently sit third in the league standings, one point behind Leeds, having led the way by 17 points at one stage of the season. They do, however, have a game in hand, having played 39 matches.
“The only thing I would say is that this league throws situations like this up every now and then, because everybody can beat everybody at a point in time,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s whether you can hold your nerve, and I think Leeds have done that unbelievably well. Just looking back at the results, when was the last time they were beaten? Even if they aren’t winning, they are drawing.
“They are just constantly moving forward and growing, and I think they’ve got an excellent squad with really good players in there, with experience and also young players coming through, they’ve got a really good blend.
“I’ve just got a sneaky feeling that they can do it.
“I feel for the team who comes third, because it never seems to work out for them. Leicester… can you imagine being in front for that length of time, then you drop into third and into the play-offs.
“Your mind was already set on being in the Premier League, and then it’s so difficult in the play-offs. So whoever finishes third, it will be hard for them.

“If you were 17 points ahead, you’ve only got yourselves to blame. Whether you took your foot off the gas, your eye off the ball, however you want to call it, if you don’t finish first or second, that’s poor. It’s then a lottery in the play-offs.”
