Leeds United to receive bids for stars regardless of promotion – pundit

Leeds United will face interest in their star players this summer regardless of whether they win promotion in the play-off final.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie explained that Leeds’ focus will not be on their players’ situations ahead of the final.

Leeds are set to face Southampton at Wembley on 26 May to decide which of last season’s relegated clubs will bounce straight back into the Premier League.

It was said that issues surrounding players’ futures will be addressed following the game, with clubs monitoring several key players at Elland Road.

Crysencio Summerville is expected to attract heavy interest, with Football Insider reporting that the 22-year-old will leave if they fail to gain promotion.

Alongside Summerville, the likes of Wilfried Gnonto and Archie Gray have also attracted interest, with promotion to play a crucial part in their futures.

McAvennie explained that he expects bids to arrive for the star players even if they are promoted, but it would not be worth thinking about until it happens.

“Let me tell you this, if somebody is going to come in for one of their star players, they’ll come in whether they get promoted or not,” he told Football Insider.

“I wouldn’t worry too much about that, worry about getting there first.

“If they start worrying about things like that then they’ll never get there, so I don’t think there’s a problem with that.”
