Bielsa told to hand Firpo extended run in Leeds starting XI after confirmed news - Mills
Danny Mills has claimed Junior Firpo needs an extended run in the Leeds United starting XI to be the player everyone thought he would be when he signed.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Whites and England defender suggested being in and out of the side has not helped Firpo find his best form.
He made his only start since the beginning of October in the 0-0 draw to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend (27 November) but was substituted at half-time.
Firpo himself was then substituted in during the interval of the 1-0 win to Crystal Palace (1 December) and put in a much better performance.
Marcelo Bielsa claimed ahead of the game (30 November), via the Yorkshire Evening Post, the left-back will get better with the more minutes he plays.
“Sometimes week-to-week you can have a bad game then a good game,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You have to look over the course of six or seven games. You have to go good game, good game, good game, good game, average game, good game, good game, good game, average game, good game.
“You can’t keep going good game, bad game. Especially as a defender, that doesn’t work. You have to be consistent and find that level of consistency.
“Being taken off one game and coming on the next, it doesn’t help. You don’t know whether you’re coming or going as a player.
“That’s up to the manager to manage that. To make sure he’s ready and to make sure he understands why he’s in and out of the starting line up so he can improve.
“There’s no point trying to improve the things the manager doesn’t want you to improve. There will also be discussions about getting his fitness levels up to speed as well.”
