Leeds United told to pull plug on Daniel Farke sacking by pundit

Daniel Farke has been told he must win promotion with Leeds United next season amid rumours surrounding his position at Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie explained that, while he hopes Farke, 47, can keep his job, he must achieve promotion next season after coming so close.

Leeds were beaten 1-0 by Southampton in the playoff final, condemning Farke’s side to another year in the Championship.

This was despite picking up 90 points, before a late capitulation, in which they lost four of their last six games, saw Leicester and Ipswich pip them to automatic promotion.

Daniel Farke told how to save Leeds United job in sack verdict

Given the demands of the fans and the board at Leeds to reach Premier League football, Farke must prove he can take this side up or risk losing his job.

McAvennie insisted that he cannot be seen as a failure based on this season, despite Russell Martin suggesting otherwise, but plenty of people in Leeds will be hurt.

I hope they’re not getting rid of him, don’t do it – I hope they stay with him,” he told Football Insider.

There’ll be a lot of people hurting in Leeds, but I think he’s a good manager.

I think Russell Martin said that, they’ll be judged on one game, success or failure.

That’s a hell of a thing. He’s judged as a success, but I wouldn’t say Farke was a failure, not by any stretch of the imagination.

But, they might say he never made it. It’s a strange one. I don’t know what’s going to happen.

Leeds United

He’s a good manager. They were so close and they lost a few games that they shouldn’t have lost, they should’ve gone up automatically.

But they’ve got to come back up next year – he can and will get them promoted next season.”
