Leeds United told to seal deal for striker after Patrick Bamford injury update – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Leeds United “need to” bring in a replacement for Patrick Bamford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender suggested Leeds can’t go through a whole season without another option going forward.

The 28-year-old was forced off holding his groin after just 30 minutes of Leeds United’s 2-2 draw at Southampton (13 August).

The centre-forward was absent from the squad that faced Chelsea on Sunday (21 August).

As quoted by LeedsLive (20 August), Jesse Marsch said he does not want to “risk” Bamford picking up another injury.

The manager added that the forward is “feeling good” even though he has been left out of the squad.

Bamford missed 30 games for the Yorkshire club during the 2021-22 season due to injury.

When asked if Leeds will need to look for another striker if Bamford’s injury could keep him out of the team long-term, Hutton told Football Insider: “They’ll probably be on the hunt to bring in another striker.

I think [Joe] Gelhardt had to step in last season, Leeds had a lot of issues when Bamford was out injured. I still think they have to bring somebody in.

It is a shame for Bamford, he’s not really been able to keep himself fit the last couple of seasons.

If that’s him with another injury, I don’t think they can go through this whole season without bringing in reinforcements, so they’ll definitely be looking to bring in another striker.
