Leeds United told to seal striker signing after journalist’s £60m update – Campbell

Kevin Campbell has urged Leeds United to spend the money raised from the prospective sale of Raphinha on a striker.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton centre-forward said Jesse Marsch cannot go into next season relying on Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt.

According to Fabrizio Romano (30 June), Chelsea have agreed a £60million deal with Leeds United for Raphinha.

However, the player is said to have not decided on his future, with Barcelona still waiting in the wings.

Raphinha has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.

When asked by Football Insider how the Whites should go about spending the prospective money raised from the winger’s sale, Campbell said: “The need a striker for me.

“Leeds have a lot of holes in the squad. They need to beef it up.

“I would say they need a striker more than anything though. They need competition at the top end of the pitch.

“Leeds need to be a lot stouter in midfield and a bit steadier at the back but above all else they need goals. They need a goalscorer. Every team needs a goalscorer.

“Bamford struggled with injury last season. If he is not going to be right… I like Gelhardt but you cannot rely on him.

“They need somebody of note at the top end of the pitch. Otherwise, they will really struggle.

“I think Jesse Marsch will invest that money wisely. They cannot get the Raphinha deal done quick enough because they need to go out there and get players in.”
