Agbonlahor tells Leeds to get rid of Roberts after key development

Gabby Agbonlahor has told Leeds United to sell Tyler Roberts this summer as Newcastle United monitor his situation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker insisted the Whites will want to improve their squad and selling Roberts could help fund their transfer business.

Football Insider revealed last week Newcastle are keeping tabs on the attacker’s situation with his Leeds contract set to expire in 2022.

His future is up in the air after snubbing a long-term contract offer from the Yorkshire giants.

They value the Wales international at around the £10million mark.

Asked for his assessment of Roberts’ situation, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It’s very difficult because when you’ve got players you’re going to want them to improve.

“Leeds are going to want to improve as a squad, they’re going to want to bring players in and go to the next level.

“They may look at letting him go and signing somebody else.

“It just makes sense, you either give him a new contract or sell him. If I was Leeds, I’d probably sell him and add that money to the other money you’ve got and bring in another player of a better standard.”

Roberts has featured in 26 Premier League games this season, including 14 starts.

He scored his first top-flight goal in the dying stages of their 2-0 win over Southampton earlier this week. The 22-year-old also has two assists under his belt this term.

In other news, Leeds United are braced for “huge” bids for “phenomenon” who has missed two-thirds of the season.
