Leeds United transfer news: McDonald agrees deal – heading to club today to complete move

Leeds United have won the race to sign Scottish talent Josh McDonald from Hamilton Academical, sources have told Football Insider.

McDonald will travel to the Premier League club’s headquarters on Thursday to complete the transfer after United moved to bring him into their academy ranks and make the move permanent.

Hamilton will receive a fee of £150,0000 from the Premier League side for their academy product.

Leeds have beaten Rangers to the capture of the 16-year old in what is regarded by the club as a major coup.

A number of Premier League and Championship clubs have also watched the midfielder with scouts describing him, sources are told, as an “exceptional talent”.

The Whites are set to add another talent to their ranks at a time when the club is in turmoil and fighting a relegation battle.

McDonald may find himself playing for a Championship club next season but despite the nature of Leeds position he has chosen them as his new home.

He was playing at a level above his age at Hamilton and has represented Scotland ate every level of the pyramid, most recently making his 3rd appearance for Scotland Under-16s.

It is the first signing of the Sam Allardyce era, although it could prove to be a short-lived one.

He has been appointed for the final four games of the season in an attempt to save the club from relegation but is unlikely to land the role on a permanent basis.
