Leeds United will be forced to sell star players after ‘devastating’ financial update – sources

Leeds United are close to the limit of financial regulations and will be forced to sell star players this summer after suffering a “devastating” loss of £34million in 2022-23, sources have told Football Insider.

The Yorkshire club published their full 22-23 accounts to Companies House on Tuesday (9 April) revealing a club record turnover of £189million.

They earned £74million from player sales but still suffered an overall loss of £34million as a result of their relegation to the Championship.

It follows losses of £36.7million and £11.1million in their previous two accounts.

Leeds have comfortably complied with PSR this season but heavy losses in back-to-back years mean they will have to balance their books to avoid a breach next year.

Leeds United must sell to avoid points deduction risk next season

The club suffered a loss of £65.5million when they were previously promoted in 2020 and similar figures from their Championship campaign this season would put the club in danger of a points deduction.

Leeds will only have allowable losses of £81million in their 23-24 PSR calculations due to one of their accounting years being in the Championship.

To avoid significant losses that will push them over the threshold, it is understood that Leeds will have to sell star players to balance their books.

Leeds

As revealed by Football Insider, multiple top Premier League clubs are preparing bids for Leeds sensation Archie Gray.

Daniel Farke’s squad currently sit third in the Championship – one point behind promotion rivals Leicester City and Ipswich Town with four games remaining.
