Leeds ‘want’ to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin ally in January amid injury fear
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has provided a major boost to Leeds United in the relegation battle with his recent form and goalscoring exploits.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Daniel Farke‘s plans to sign a new striker may now have been brushed aside.
Leeds beat Crystal Palace 4-1 at Elland Road, as Calvert-Lewin scored twice and they were able to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
The Peacocks are now six points above 18th-placed West Ham, with their striker having scored in each of their last five games, picking up eight points in that time.
Brown previously warned Football Insider that Leeds are in big trouble as a result of their lack of attacking firepower, but the striker’s form has changed that stance.
Leeds make new transfer plan after Dominic Calvert-Lewin goals
Brown warned Football Insider in October that Leeds would need to sign a striker after Calvert-Lewin’s disappointing start to life at Elland Road.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has explained that while there are still concerns about the striker, he is proving to be an asset.
“Calvert-Lewin has really hit top form for Leeds,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s nice to see, because at one time he was somebody I thought had real top potential, but he’s had injuries and inconsistency throughout his career.
“Now he looks back to the player he was four or five years ago, he looks fit, he looks sharp, and he looks confident, that’s a huge boost to Leeds.
“When you’re in a relegation scrap, if you’ve got a striker who can score goals on a regular basis, that gives you an immediate advantage.

“I think they did want to sign a striker in January, and probably still do, but if he can stay fit it might allow them to focus on other important positions.
“Those concerns about Calvert-Lewin are always going to be there, because you never know when he could pick up an injury, but they’re happy with him for now.”
Daniel Farke makes transfer U-turn after tactical switch
After an incredible turnaround, Calvert-Lewin has been tipped for a stunning recall to Thomas Tuchel‘s England squad, having not represented the Three Lions since 2021.
As a result, Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Leeds are prioritising other key areas of the squad rather than a new striker thanks to their recent goalscoring exploits.
While potential alternatives have been assessed, Farke’s recent tactical tweaks have seen Leeds find the net far more often, negating the need for a new forward.

Those changes have not only impacted Calvert-Lewin’s future, but also that of the manager who had come under pressure after a string of poor results.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Farke is safe in his role at Leeds and the club hope to back him as the man to keep them in the Premier League.
