Leeds will have to make ‘hefty pay-off’ to sack Daniel Farke – sources

Leeds United will have to make a “hefty pay-off” to sack Daniel Farke this season, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the manager still has three years remaining on his contract at Elland Road, having signed a long-term deal when he was appointed.

As a result, the club would be forced to fork out a substantial payment to the boss should they decide to move in a different direction after disappointing results.

Football Insider revealed that Farke still has the backing of the board and the dressing room at Elland Road, with no decision set to be made over his future.

However, it has been said that if their poor run of results continues, the board’s hand could be forced as the crowd begins to grow impatient with the manager.

Pressure on Farke’s position has been growing since the playoff final defeat last season, and a slow start to this season has led to speculation over his future.

With just two wins in their opening six games of the season across all competitions, the boss will be hoping for a quick turnaround in form.

The pay-off if Farke is sacked is not thought to be a deterrent for Leeds’ owners, who are willing to make the change if they feel it will help them reach promotion.

Sources have told Football Insider that the 49ers are desperate to achieve promotion back to the Premier League, and will make the call should they be on course to miss out again.

A turn of form from November onwards last season saw the Elland Road outfit challenge for automatic promotion despite a slow start, and they hope they will replicate that form this season.

As things stand, there are no discussions ongoing about the manager’s future, with the board keen to stand by their man unless their hand is forced.

Despite that backing, just four wins in their last 15 competitive fixtures have raised the level of concern amongst fans at Leeds.

Following a 1-0 defeat to Burnley last time out, supporters are already insisting the boss should lose his job, with Carlos Corberan mooted as his possible replacement.
