Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has sanctioned a move for the Reds to pursue Juventus stopper Gianluigi Buffon this summer, according to a report in The Sun – and fans are loving it.
The legendary keeper, who has made 176 appearances for the Italian national senior side has had a career on the international scene which has spanned three decades from when he started in 1993.
And now at 40 years of age, and his contract due to end in Turin this June, the stopper is reportedly looking at options both on and off the pitch.
Liverpool boss, Klopp, is known to be in the market for a keeper with Simon Mignolet unhappy with his place in the side reduced to a role on the bench, and it was thought that AS Roma’s Alisson would be the man to take the number one jersey at Anfield.
But with the Serie A side reportedly wanting a fee of £87million to part ways with the Brazilian, and Klopp turning his attention to Buffon, that move now looks as though it is dead in the water.
But judging by reactions on social media to the news, Reds fans aren’t bothered and would love to see the long-standing Italian number one through the doors at Anfield this summer.
Here is a selection of reactions on Twitter from Liverpool supporters after hearing the news:
Buffon even at 40 is one of the best keepers in the world, simple.
Our ‘targets’ Allison and Oblak will be guaranteed to cost 70 million or more, which is hands down too much for a keeper right now
Buffon will cost next to nothing

Definitely must go for buffon. At least he lasted well for a year and try to buy dragowski or lafont or arrinzebega. They can shine later.

Abso-bloody-lutely! What that man has forgotten is already more than any keeper will learn in a lifetime. Would be invaluable to karius & the team. Book his flight already

Yes, would be great and he can move on to the coaching role after that. We could also help him finally win the CL next season.
