Leicester City charge: Ex-Premier League CEO ‘shocked’ by latest – ‘this has escalated’
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has insisted he was “shocked” to see the Premier League charge Championship club Leicester City with a financial breach.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – also claimed the Foxes have “escalated the mess” by launching legal action against the Premier League and EFL.
Leicester were charged last week (21 March) with breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) over a three-year period ending in the 2022-23 season.
The second-tier side were also charged for failing to submit their accounts on time after missing the 31 December deadline.
Enzo Maresca’s side released a club statement on Friday (22 March) to confirm they have opened legal proceedings against the Premier League and EFL.
Leicester have ‘escalated’ FFP row with Premier League
Football Insider has been told by finance guru Kieran Maguire (26 March) that senior figures from the top-tier are “angry”.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Initially, I was shocked that this had gone into the Championship.
“I didn’t understand, I thought that the relegation would have been a loophole for Leicester and got them out of this – but it seems the loophole wasn’t there.

“To see their reaction, launching legal action against the EFL and Premier League for unlawful acts – all it’s done is escalate the mess rather than calm things down.
“That’s a pretty strong take.”
