Leicester City ‘could sack Ruud van Nistelrooy soon’

Leicester City could sack Ruud van Nistelrooy before the end of the season if their disappointing Premier League performances continue.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that pressure on the boss’ position is continuing to grow.

The Foxes dropped into the relegation zone after a 4-0 defeat to Everton at the weekend, as fellow relegation battlers Wolves pulled off a 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

Football Insider reported that fans have aimed their frustrations at the board rather than the manager given a lack of backing in the transfer market.

Concerns were also raised about the abilities of the players, particularly defensively, and whether they have the quality to survive in the Premier League.

However, Brown explained that the manager will ultimately take the blame for their poor performances amid growing pressure at the bottom of the table.

Leicester have won just one of their last ten league games and have shipped 24 goals during that spell, including four against Everton last time out.

Leicester could sack Ruud van Nistelrooy after new twist

Brown told Football Insider shortly after the manager’s appointment at Leicester that he could struggle to turn their form around given a lack of quality in the squad.

The former scout, who was instrumental in bringing Van Nistelrooy to Man United in 2001 and has a wealth of experience working with top-level managers, insisted that the players should take just as much of the blame as the boss will.

He’s going to come under a lot of pressure,” he told Football Insider.

“If you’re down in that position and you keep losing games, there’s always going to be pressure.

“When I look at Leicester’s team, I never thought they were good enough to survive in the Premier League.

“They’ve got too many players, especially at the back, who are not up to standard.

“That’s been a big weakness in their team and it’s not something Ruud can do much about.

“But it always comes back to fingers being pointed at the manager.

“You’ve got to have somebody to blame, I suppose, but what about the players? Are those players producing what they’re capable of?

“The manager gets sacked and everybody thinks the slate gets wiped clean because he’s gone, but it’s the players that got into this position in the first place.

“Of course, it’s the manager who ultimately gets the blame, and that’s been the case forever.

“As soon as you start losing a few games, particularly when you’re down the bottom of the league, you come under a lot of pressure and more often than not they pull the trigger.

“So it’ll be on Leicester to decide whether they’ll stick with him if they go down, or they try to bring somebody else in in a desperate attempt to stay up.

“We’ve seen it before, Leeds did it and they were relegated, and Leicester did too, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they let him go before the end of the season.”
