Leicester City could sell ‘four stars very quickly’ before 30th June – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Leicester City could be forced into a four-man fire sale before 30 June if they are not promoted.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested spending a second year in the Championship would be a “big roll of the dice” for the Foxes.
Leicester have been charged by the Premier League for breaking spending rules and will be subject to a potential points deduction if they return to the top-flight.
The Foxes are locked in a three-way fight for automatic promotion with Leeds and Ipswich and could drop into the playoffs at the end of this season.
Thai-owned Leicester reported a loss of almost £90million for the 2022-23 season – taking total losses for their last three Premier League campaigns to over £215million.
Leicester could be forced into ‘four-man fire sale’ if promotion bid fails, says Wyness
Wyness claimed the club’s accounts cut-off of 30 June could mean up to four players are sold “very quickly” if they miss out on promotion.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’d have to take some serious action.
“With the parachute payments, after the first year – if you don’t go up – it’s a big roll of the dice. For a third year, it’s even bigger.
“The payments stop, and that will be the biggest issue for Leicester.
“If they don’t go up, they’ll have the playoffs to go through. I’ve been through that agony if you miss out, I know what that’s like.

“If they don’t get the job done automatically or through the playoffs, then three or four top players could be sold very quickly – before the accounts cut-off on 30 June.
“It could become a fire sale. The demand won’t be high, but there are quality players.”
