‘Leicester City exit announcements tipped to continue after Jamie Vardy’

Jamie Vardy will likely see others follow him out of the exit door at Leicester City, it has been suggested.

Following their promotion from the Championship at the end of last season, this has been a dismal return to the Premier League for the Foxes.

A 1-0 defeat to Champions elect Liverpool on Sunday (20 April) confirmed Leicester‘s relegation from the Premier League with five games of the season still to be played.

Indeed, Ruud van Nistelrooy‘s side have now failed to score in a record nine straight home league games on their way to that instant return to the second-tier.

After confirmation of their relegation, Vardy posted a damning message about the situation at Leicester, and now his own future prospects have been confirmed.

Jamie Vardy to move on

The striker has spent the last 13 years with the Foxes, proving crucial to their Premier League title in 2016 and FA Cup win in 2021.

In total he has scored 198 goals in 496 appearances for the club, but on Thursday (24 April) it was announced that Vardy will leave Leicester at the end of this season when his contract expires.

Amid the disappointment of this campaign, Peter Schmeichel has suggested others could and should soon join the veteran striker in leaving the King Power Stadium before the start of next season.

Speaking on talkSPORT the former Man United goalkeeper – whose son Kasper was a teammate of Vardy’s in the Foxes’ Premier League and FA Cup winning sides – was asked about the striker’s exit.

In response to that question, Schmeichel said: “Everything comes to an end and the season they’ve had, the statement he put out the other day was very, very strong worded and it’s probably exactly how he felt.

“And it doesn’t matter who you are every good thing comes to an end and Jamie Vardy’s time at Leicester has ended, and I just heard there that you were saying that he might go to America which is kind of like a natural thing for him to do.

“So I’m not really that surprised, I think there are a couple of people at that football club that need to take a very, very long look at themselves.

“I’m not particularly talking about the playing staff here but a long look because where they were to where they are now that’s not great. So maybe they’ll be more announcements in the days, weeks, months to come.”

Leicester City need major clear out

Football Insider Verdict

It would be a huge surprise if there were not major changes at the King Power Stadium with other high profile individuals following Vardy out of the club.

The change of manager following the sacking of Steve Cooper earlier in the campaign, and Van Nistelrooy is expected to be sacked by Leicester himself.

However, this squad has rarely looked capable of competing in the Premier League, and so questions must be asked about those responsible for putting this squad together.

Indeed, there have also been calls for Leicester Director of Football Jon Rudkin to go as well, not least from supporters in the ground.

Having seemingly prepared the club so poorly for this return to the Premier League, that task surely must now be entrusted to others in case promotion is won again.

With that in mind, Vardy is unlikely to be the only one to leave Leicester in the near future, although others will surely not be remembered as fondly by Foxes fans.
