Leicester City lawsuit could now force huge Premier League U-turn – Wyness
Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has claimed Leicester City’s lawsuit could force the Premier League to U-turn and make their hearings public in future.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted fans need hearings to be “public and transparent” to understand potential punishments.
Leicester were charged with breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) last week (22 March) despite currently playing in the Championship.
Enzo Maresca’s side will not face a points deduction for the current season, however, as fast-track for the punishment process was brought in after the club were relegated from the Premier League last year (2023).
The EFL has also hit the Foxes with a transfer embargo – and the Midlands side have hit back by starting legal action against them and the Premier League.
Leicester legal action could force Premier League ‘transparency’, says Wyness
Wyness suggested Leicester’s lawsuit could force the Premier League to make their hearings public in future to ensure “transparency”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m pretty sure Leicester will want to speak out and go public, and perhaps this lawsuit threatens to make that happen.
“The sooner these things are more public and transparent, the better.
“Yes, we’ve had 50-page documents but behind that lies a myriad of different things we never see.
“We still have no understanding of how the punishments are arrived at. Particularly in the case of Everton, which started this whole process off.

“Nobody can understand how they got to 10 points.
“We need transparency and we’re lacking leadership from the Premier League at the moment.”
