Leicester City owners face fan revolt after controversial decision

Leicester City’s financial situation has been heavily scrutinised after facing various issues at the King Power Stadium over the past couple of years.

Leicester are facing a potential points deduction after struggling to comply with the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) in recent campaigns.

The Foxes were charged with breaching the PSR rules for 2022-23, but they avoided a points deduction after exploiting a loophole in the rules.

However, Leicester were charged in May with an alleged breach of the EFL’s financial rules for 2023-24 – the year they secured promotion back to the Premier League.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Leicester are likely to receive a six-point deduction after their case was heard last month.

Leicester ‘spark outrage’ after new reveal

While the PSR saga has caused plenty of concern among Leicester fans, a new issue has now emerged at the King Power.

The Telegraph reported on Friday (19 December) the Foxes have informed staff they will not be paid their monthly salaries before Christmas.

The newspaper said Leicester have decided to delay their payroll policy for December until New Year’s Eve, with the decision “sparking outrage and frustration” at the King Power.

The Championship club, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have insisted the delay on payments is not related to any financial issues.

However, the news is unlikely to go down well with the Foxes fanbase, who have questioned various decisions from their owners over the past couple of years.

Leicester are owned by the King Power International Group, which is spearheaded by the club’s chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha.

Leicester make controversial decision after big-name exit

The decision to delay staff payments comes after a major change has been confirmed to the executive team in recent months.

Susan Whelan stepped down as Leicester’s chief executive in October after spending 15 years at the King Power.

Top is currently operating as interim CEO following the departure of Whelan, who oversaw several key decisions during a hugely successful period for the Foxes, barring the past couple of years.

The East Midlands side’s board now consists of Top, vice-chairman Apichet Srivaddhanaprabha and director Shilai Liu.

There have been questions asked about manager Marti Cifuentes’s position at Leicester following their inconsistent form this season.

However, the Foxes have now moved within three points of the play-off places after going three games unbeaten in the Championship.

Cifuentes is now preparing his side to take on QPR on Saturday (20 December) as they begin a hectic period of festive fixtures.
