Leicester City points deduction ‘only a matter of time’ after devastating news – sources
Leicester City will not avoid a points deduction next season after their 2022-23 accounts revealed huge losses, sources have told Football Insider.
They have been charged for an alleged breach of Profit and Sustainabilty Rules for their final season in the Premier League.
Leicester reacted to the charges by issuing legal proceedings against both the EFL and the Premier League last month.
However, their 2022-23 accounts published on Tuesday (2 April) revealed that the club suffered losses of £90million last season.
It follows losses of £92.5million in 2022 and £31.2million in 2021.
Profit and Sustainability Rules state that top-flight clubs cannot exceed losses of £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Leicester City cannot dodge points deduction after £90m hammer blow
Sources have told Football Insider that Leicester’s accounts suggest they have “no excuses to use in their hearing” meaning a points deduction is “only a matter of time”.
Leicester’s charge is set to be heard by an independent commission and could result in a significant points deduction if they achieve promotion back to the top flight.
As revealed by Football Insider, Leicester City’s lawsuit could now force the Premier League to make a huge U-turn.

Enzo Maresca’s side currently sit third – outside of automatic promotion spots – but boast a game in hand on Leeds United in second.
A verdict from their hearing is expected before the start of the 2024-25 season meaning the Foxes could start a Premier League campaign on minus points.
