Leicester City pulled plug on Stefano Sensi deal during day of failed transfers – sources

Leicester City were forced to abandon a deal for Inter Milan star Stefano Sensi on deadline day (1 February) after failing to sell any of their fringe stars, sources have told Football Insider.

Sensi, 28, had undertaken and passed a medical with the Foxes in England before the 11pm deadline on Thursday.

But Financial Fair Play restrictions meant Leicester had to offload players before they could confirm the Italian’s arrival.

Harry Souttar was in demand on the final day of the window, with Leeds firming up their interest.

But Football Insider revealed on Friday (2 February) that the Whites only came forward with a loan-to-buy offer for the defender – with Leicester preferring to sell permanently.

Also linked with a potential exit was attacker Dennis Praet, who was reportedly a target for Belgian side Royal Antwerp throughout the January window.

But a move for the 29-year-old, who has featured sparingly for Leicester this season, failed to materialise.

Foxes key man Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was also a target for Premier League clubs – with Brighton, Brentford, Fulham and Arsenal are among the would-be suitors linked with a move.

But Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (30 January) that Leicester were not open to selling the midfielder – who is happy to stay until the summer.

Sensi has figured just four times for Inter this season and was wanted by Enzo Maresca as the Foxes’ push for promotion continues.

Maresca’s side sit 10 points clear at the top of the Championship with 17 games remaining.
