Leicester City: Supercomputer predicts chance of miracle Championship survival after defeat to Swansea

Leicester City sank into further trouble on Saturday when they were beaten by Swansea City at the King Power Stadium.

Zan Vipotnik’s second-half strike saw the Welsh side walk away with three points and left the Foxes four points away from safety in the Championship.

Leicester have won just one of their last 17 games across all competitions, and look to be heading for a campaign in League One.

Gary Rowett was appointed in February, but the 52-year-old has failed to encourage any upturn in form among his players.

Leicester are joined in the drop zone by the already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United, who trail Portsmouth by just one point.

Supercomputer condemns Leicester City

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider this week that Leicester are facing a fire sale this summer if they go down to League One.

The likes of Harry Winks, Patson Daka, Stephy Mavididi, Abdul Fatawu and Jeremy Monga would certainly be of interest elsewhere, although fans will be unlikely to care.

Disgruntlement at the King Power Stadium has largely been directed towards Jon Rudkin and other members of senior management, who have allowed the club to get into this state.

But frustrations have been levelled at the players, too, who appear to be rolling over and accepting relegation.

Just five years ago, Leicester finished fifth in the Premier League and qualified for the Europa League under Brendan Rodgers.

Just two years ago, Enzo Maresca’s side lifted the Championship title at the King Power Stadium.

Two disastrous seasons have now left the Foxes on the verge of consecutive relegations, with a path trodden by the likes of Sunderland beginning to look like Leicester’s future.

Opta‘s supercomputer has boosted the chance of relegation to a staggering 85.30 per cent, with a miracle now required to avert what looks inevitable.

The four matches between Leicester and relegation

Next week, Leicester will travel to Portsmouth for a certified relegation six-pointer. Pompey’s shock win over Middlesbrough on Saturday lifted them out of the relegation zone, and they still have five games to play.

Unfortunately, it does not get easier for the Foxes after that. The King Power Stadium will host games against promotion-chasers Hull City and Millwall, in two games that could be defining.

Should Rowett’s team fail to win by then, they will, in all likelihood, have already been relegated by the time they travel to Blackburn Rovers on the final day.

From there, the future is uncertain for a team who will also celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the greatest Premier League story of all time next month.
