Leicester City told to agree Sean Dyche deal after ‘points deduction’ news

Leicester City are preparing to sack manager Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of their return to the Championship for the 2025-26 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (20 May) that the Foxes’ board will now formalise Van Nistelrooy’s departure after just under six months in charge.

Leicester are also likely to have a points deduction to contend with as they challenge for promotion next term.

Football Insider has revealed (21 May) that the Midlands club are likely to be deducted at least six points after being charged with a Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach in the 2023-24 campaign.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has named his “perfect” choice for the King Power Stadium role.

Dyche is ‘perfect’ candidate for Leicester hot seat, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted ex-Everton boss Sean Dyche can lead Leicester through a tumultuous period.

Dyche’s Toffees side were docked a total of eight points for two PSR breaches in the 2023-24 campaign but he led them to comfortable Premier League survival.

Wyness insisted the 53-year-old would have more support from the Leicester ownership than he did at Everton, who were then owned by Farhad Moshiri.

When asked who could take the role, he told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve said Sean Dyche.

“He’s handled it, he’s fought points deductions. He knows about all the noise going on in the background, at Everton he managed to keep the club together.

“He kept the club above target and away from relegation.

“At Leicester, he would probably have more supportive owners than at Everton.

“His experience in navigating the noise is vital. Dyche will show the players he can lead them through it.

“He knows the Championship inside out – I think he’s the perfect man for the position.”

Leicester set sights on Schlupp return

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 May) that Leicester are eyeing a move to bring former star Jeffrey Schlupp back to the club.

Schlupp, who spent the second half of this season on loan at Celtic, is out of contract at Crystal Palace next month.

Leicester are planning to rebuild their squad following relegation from the Premier League and see the 32-year-old’s experience and versatility as a key addition to their squad.
