Leicester City’s Conor Coady reacts to Hamza Choudhury amid Rangers links

Leicester City defender Conor Coady has responded to team mate Hamza Choudhury as rumours circulate around his future.

The 32-year-old has been linked with a switch to Scottish Premiership side Rangers to aid Russell Martin in his first season at Ibrox.

The Gers face Greek side Panathinaikos in Champions League qualifiers at the end of July, so Martin will want a swift deal to happen for the centre-back to be able to play in the two-legged tie.

Coady joined Leicester from Wolves in 2023 but has not been a guaranteed starter for the Foxes, who are looking for a new manager after recently sacking Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Coady likes Choudhury ‘back at work’ message

Choudhury took to Instagram (6 July) to share that pre-season training had begun at Leicester, with the post liked and commented on by Coady.

The Foxes are back in the Championship after suffering a humiliating relegation from the Premier League last season.

The midfielder captioned his post: “First couple of days back at work,” including a blue love heart.

Their first league match of the season kicks off on Sunday August 10th against Sheffield Wednesday.

Coady experience would benefit Martin

Football Insider verdict

Martin is moving quickly to rebuild Rangers’ squad following a trophyless season last time out.

The former Southampton boss now feels Coady’s experience of Premier League football will benefit his side.

Joe Rothwell, Max Aarons and Thelo Aasgaard have already been poached from English clubs.

Rangers were too easy to score against under Philippe Clement with his defensive signings of Robin Propper and Jefte have so far not proved successful.

Jack Butland’s form has also eroded which contributed to their defensive frailty, and Martin has been exploring the option of reuniting with Aaron Ramsdale to strengthen that position.

Coady’s leadership should help organise Martin’s team and make them a tougher side to beat.

Martin still requires further signings especially in forward areas to replace Vaclav Cerny.

Cerny scored 18 goals in all competitions and his return to Wolfsburg has left a gaping hole.

Martin cannot rely solely on striker Cyriel Dessers who is not a ruthless finisher.

Much will depend on qualifying for the Champions League, both financially and for attracting players to the club.

Martin therefore needs his squad to be as ready as possible before the crunch matches against Panathinaikos.
