Leicester face ‘big’ points deduction from ‘angry’ Premier League – Kieran Maguire

Leicester City face a “big” points deduction from the Premier League after breaching financial regulations and failing to submit their accounts on time.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that senior figures inside the Premier League are “angry”.

The Foxes were charged last week with breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules for a period ending in the 2022-23 season.

The Championship side were also charged with failing to submit their accounts on time after missing the 31 December deadline.

The EFL have also issued a registration embargo against the Foxes in compliance with their financial regulations.

Leicester City missed deadline could result in ‘big’ punishment next season

Leicester released a club statement on Friday (22 March) that they have opened legal proceedings against both the Premier League and the EFL.

Maguire believes Leicester’s failure to submit accounts could result in a larger points deduction than usual if they return to the Premier League next season.

Leicester City have now been charged by a somewhat angry Premier League and they have tried to argue that they’re not a Premier League club,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

It could mean that there is a big points deduction because one of the charges levelled by the Premier League is that they didn’t submit their accounts by the due date.

Leicester’s argument is that they’re in the EFL, but there was a statement from the EFL which said otherwise.

Now, it could now be that they were neither and we could be operating in some grey area here.
