Leicester make ‘first serious move’ to sign Man City player as transfer deadline looms

Leicester City could finally be about to secure their first new addition in the final stages of the January transfer window.

The Foxes have found life difficult on the pitch in the Championship this season, and that has been matched by their efforts in the winter market, with no reinforcements arriving so far.

Russell Martin is closing in on the Leicester manager’s job after the sacking of Marti Cifuentes, with his odds to take over at the King Power Stadium cut drastically on Saturday.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha is under pressure to turn the fortunes of the East Midlands outfit around both on and off the pitch, and the club could finally be about to land their first signing of the window.

Leicester well-placed to sign Divine Mukasa

Leicester have agreed a deal to sign Divine Mukasa on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season, with the youngster set to pen a new deal at the Etihad Stadium in the process, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The striker featured six times for the Citizens’ first team last season, but has been limited to U21 football this term, with his parent club now keen to loan him out for further senior experience.

However, his loan exit from the Premier League giants hinges on his likely gametime, with City seeking assurances that the 18-year-old will get regular football if he moves away, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon account.

It is understood that City are exploring several clubs as potential destinations for Mukasa, but Leicester are the ones who have made “the first serious move” for him in recent days.

Mukasa has been prolific in youth football recently, as he notched 16 goals and 15 assists from just 21 games in the U18 Premier League last season.

Foxes need Mukasa to hit the ground running

Leicester have had a nightmare season so far after their relegation from the top flight last term, and they suffered yet more frustration on Saturday.

Andy King’s side were beaten 2-0 at the King Power Stadium by Charlton Athletic, a result that leaves them glancing nervously over their shoulders as they are just nine points clear of the relegation zone.

With the possibility of an impending points deduction also on the horizon, the former Premier League winners are in a perilous position, and as a result, they need Mukasa to come in and hit the ground running.

They are seemingly at the front of the queue to sign the starlet, and they desperately need him to come in and reinvigorate their group, while providing a freshness that simply hasn’t been seen in recent weeks.

Leicester have a difficult run of games on the horizon in the coming weeks, and they could easily find themselves getting dragged further into the relegation dogfight.
