Leicester player ratings v Brugge: Striker is star man

By Will Butcher

Football Insider rates the Leicester City players after they recorded a 2-1 victory in their Champions League tie against Club Brugge on Tuesday night, which has seen them qualify for the knockout stages.

Ron-Robert Zieler 6 – Had little to do all evening but conceded Leicester’s first goal, after Brugge winger Izquierdo produced a moment of magic that perhaps Zieler should have saved at his near post in the second half.

Danny Simpson 7 – Looked comfortable all evening, as he supplied the attack but defended astutely.

Wes Morgan 7 – Untroubled for the majority of the night, proved too strong for Brugge’s attack.

Robert Huth – 6 Calm and assured, but a lack of pace embarrassingly evident.

Christian Fuchs 7 – Good and bad moments. Supplied a superb assist for Okazaki’s goal, but struggled to keep up with Izquierdo on the right flank as he raced past Fuchs to score.

Riyad Mahrez – 7 Still not hitting the heights of last season, but nevertheless got his name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot and secured a Leicester’s place in the knockout phase.

Danny Drinkwater – 7 Indifferent season so far for the England international, but he put his error against West Brom behind him with a tidy, simple performance in the middle of the park.

Andy King – 6 Did okay, but is not good enough for this standard of football. Was sloppy in possession at times.

Marc Albrighton – 8 Started the move that brought the first goal on the edge of the penalty area, before winning the penalty for Mahrez to convert. Convincing display.

Jamie Vardy – 7 Superb flick for the goal to set Fuchs away down the left before he crossed for Okazaki. Lead the line tirelessly, hassling Brugge’s nervous defenders. Superb finish disallowed for offside, deserved more.

Shinji Okazaki – 9 Impeccable finish from the Japan international for the first goal, as he wrapped his foot around a bouncing ball to find the top corner. Tireless as always.

Jeffrey Schlupp (for Mahrez, 68 mins) 6

Demarai Gray (for Okazaki, 68 mins) 6

Daniel Amartey (for Albrighton 78 mins) 6
