Leicester ‘all over’ Evan Ferguson after source’s reveal – Insider

Leicester City are pushing to sign Brighton star Evan Ferguson on loan ahead of the January transfer window to provide support for Jamie Vardy.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who knows Ruud van Nistelrooy well and remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Foxes want to sign a striker even if they miss out on Ferguson.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 November that the 20-year-old wants to quit Brighton in search of first-team football in January.

Leicester’s interest is also rivalled by Fulham while West Ham have also been linked, but there is a growing belief they could persuade him to make the move to the King Power.

Sources say Brighton are yet to decide whether to entertain loan offers in January or if they would prefer a permanent exit, but are leaning towards the former.

The Foxes, meanwhile, have been reliant on a 37-year-old Vardy to lead the line so far this season as he has started 12 of their 13 Premier League games so far, scoring four goals.

As a result, they are looking to add a new striker to both rival Vardy’s position and provide another option up front, and Ferguson’s availability is seen as a perfect opportunity.

Leicester City want to sign new striker amid Evan Ferguson push

Football Insider revealed on 2 December that Ferguson would be seen as a “huge” signing for the Foxes, while he would welcome the change to player under Van Nistelrooy.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that a new striker is at the top of Leicester’s list of priorities for the January window.

I’d expect them to push for that deal when the window opens,” he told Football Insider.

“If he’s available on loan, they’ll be all over it, because they don’t have much room to manoeuvre when it comes to spending money.

“Ferguson is regarded as a player with bags of potential.

“He needs to be playing regular football to help his development, and Leicester can offer that.

“So a loan move, in that case, would suit all three parties perfectly.

“At the moment, they’re relying quite a lot on Jamie Vardy and it’s impressive what he’s been able to do, but you need to have options around him.

“So they will be looking to sign a new striker in January, whether they get Ferguson or not, to provide cover and competition up front.”
