‘Leicester refused desperate Conor Coady Wolves return’

Wolves were unable to re-sign Conor Coady from Leicester in the transfer window despite his desperation to return, according to Daily Mirror journalist Alex Richards.

On Monday (3 February) it was revealed that with just hours left of the window the two clubs were in talks over a swap deal, that would have seen fellow centre-back Craig Dawson join the Foxes (The Mirror).

That is something that was said to have got fans of the Molineux club “very excited”, although ultimately no deal materialised.

As per this latest update, Coady had been “desperate” to return to Wolves, who he previously played for between 2015 and 2022.

However, this update states that after initial talks had been held, Leicester got “cold feet” about the deal, and refused to change that stance despite the best efforts of Vitor Pereira’s side.

Wolves would have relished Conor Coady return

Football Insider Verdict

Even with the signing of Emmanuel Agbadou earlier in the window, it seemed there was still a desire to add another centre-back to the squad at Molineux in the window.

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi was apparently another option in that position who turned down a move to Wolves after being targeted.

Bringing Coady back would therefore have been useful to help fill that void, given his experience in the Premier League.

His connection with the club would have clearly made this a very popular deal as well, and the passion and leadership he brings may have helped guide them to Premier League safety.

Wolves
Conor Coady will not be back in a Wolves shirt this season.

But with Leicester battling Wolves to avoid relegation, it is perhaps understandable that they decided to back out of this deal in the end.

Given Coady will be entering the final year of his contract with the Foxes in the summer, it will be interesting to see if this is revisited then, especially depending on how that relegation fight ends.
