Leicester respond to punishment as shock 20-point deduction update now emerges

Leicester City have been hit with a six-point deduction in the Championship for breaching financial rules.

The Foxes have had a dire start to life back in the Championship, with dreams of a Premier League return all but gone.

Leicester are currently on the hunt for a manager after Marti Cifuentes was sacked at the end of January.

Now, it appears whoever comes will be aiming to lead the East Midlands club to safety, with the points deduction dropping them from 17th to 20th in the Championship, with the Foxes only above the relegation zone on goal difference.

However, it appears the situation could have been a lot worse, with a 20-point deduction being touted at one point.

Leicester avoid 20-point deduction as appeal is considered by the Foxes

According to John Percy via X on 5 February, Leicester’s position going into the second half of the campaign could have been far more dire.

The Premier League were pushing for a 20-point deduction for various aggravated breaches. However, this clearly did not happen, with six points eventually being issued.

While Leicester will consider an appeal, there is no doubt that the Foxes could have been far worse off.

Six points was the predicted punished at the King Power Stadium, and now this has become a reality.

Who is in the running for the Leicester job?

Now, whoever comes into the Leicester dugout is going to have an even bigger job on their hands.

The scrap for survival at the bottom is really heating up, with several big teams down there, including West Brom, Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City.

As it stands, Russell Martin is the bookies’ favourite to take over at Leicester.

While the former Canaries captain did lead Southampton to the Premier League just a few years ago, his reputation in the dugout was tarnished during his short time at Ranges this season.

Charlotte FC manager Dean Smith

Following this, both Gary Rowett, Andy King and Dean Smith are believed to be in contention for the job, with the former leading Oxford United to safety last season.

Potential outsiders include Chris Coleman and Enzo Maresca, as the Foxes hunt for the coach who will be able to fix their on-field problems.
