Leicester City sack close after Steve Cooper’s ‘serious’ confession
Steve Cooper’s future at Leicester City looks increasingly bleak after he confirmed his latest major blow in charge of the club.
Following their promotion from the Championship as title winners last season, the Foxes have found things tougher in the top-flight.
They have won just two of their 11 league games so far, meaning they sit 15th in the Premier League table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
It is understood that Cooper’s job at The King Power Stadium is already under threat, amid that slow start to the campaign.
Now, it could be argued that the latest update on one key Leicester player, will have the Foxes boss even more concerned about his chances of avoiding the sack.
Abdul Fatawu hands Steve Cooper major Leicester injury blow
With his side set to return to action after the international break on Saturday against Chelsea, one player the club will be unable to call upon is Abdul Fatawu.
Speaking ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, Cooper confirmed that the winger has suffered a “serious injury” in his ACL, which is set to keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.
That is of course, a major blow for the 20-year-old, who was getting his first taste of Premier League football this season.
It could though, also be a major problem for Cooper, as he battles to keep his job as Leicester manager.
Although the winger took some time to earn a place in the starting XI this season, he has been one of the standout performers for the club of late.
That was best exemplified in the Foxes’ last win on 19 October, when he came off the bench on the hour-mark away at Southampton with his side trailing 2-0.
Fatawu proved to be a game-changer in that match, his performance vital in turning things around to help Leicester to a 3-2 win.
As a result, the Ghana international is someone who has shown he can help secure the results his side needs to keep them in the Premier League, and Cooper in a job.
But with the 20-year-old now out for the remainder of the campaign, the pressure is now on the 44-year-old to find someone else within the dressing room to fill that role.
If he is unable to do that, then with other candidates for the job already emerging, you wonder how much longer Cooper might actually be at Leicester for.
