Leicester stars past and present react to ‘quit’ message from Jamie Vardy

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy took to social media to after his team’s comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Brighton to hail their never-say-die attitude.

Trailing by two goals with just four minutes left, Leicester were on the verge of suffering a first defeat under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

However, the Foxes fought back with two late goals from Vardy and Bobby De Cordova-Reid. They secured a 2-2 draw against the Seagulls on Sunday (9 December).

The comeback earned them a crucial point against the high-flying south-coast team, keeping Leicester in 16th place in the Premier League table.

At 37, the captain shows no signs of slowing down. He now has six goals and three assists in 14 games this season.

Vardy took to Instagram to share his excitement, captioning a post: “We never quit. Great spirit from the lads to get back into it and big thanks to you all for the support at the King Power.”

His teammates joined the celebration, with De Cordova-Reid posting raised-hand emojis in appreciation. Loaned Brighton player Facundo Buonanotte also commented with applause emojis. Wilfred Ndidi posted a goat and flame emoji, Ricardo Pereira wrote “until the end”, while Premier League-winning ex-teammate Andy King just posted a goat.

The Dutchman has already won over fans with an excellent start, including a 3-1 victory against West Ham on Tuesday (3 December).

Van Nistelrooy praised Jamie Vardy as “top-class” in his post-match interview. The former Man United striker noted that even at 37, he is the type of player who can “make a difference.”

He said: “If you are on the scoresheet and make an assist, then you have to say this result would not be possible without him.”

He added, “I enjoyed the whole sequence leading up to the goal, and that’s why, as a team, we put him in that position.” [BBC Sport]

With the January transfer window approaching, the 2016 Premier League champions will certainly look to bolster their squad.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who knows Van Nistelrooy well, exclusively told Football Insider that Leicester are “all over” Evan Ferguson from Brighton.

At just 20, the Irish striker could thrive under the guidance of two legendary forwards Vardy and Van Nistelrooy, potentially giving his career a revival.

However, Ferguson is in high demand. On 3 December, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Nottingham Forest are planning a move. West Ham and Fulham also showing interest.

A striker of Ferguson’s calibre could make all the difference and help Leicester keep their distance from the relegation battle.

Currently, they are five points clear of the drop zone and face a tough challenge at St James’ Park on 14 December.
