Leicester to face devastating points deduction ‘on my numbers’ – Stefan Borson

Leicester City have breached the Premier League’s spending rules “by a mile” despite the sale of star player Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the club are a “long way short” on his numbers of meeting the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) even if the sale was included in their 2023-24 accounts.

Leicester were charged in March with a breach of the PSR rules for 2022-23 and are staring down the barrel of a points deduction following their promotion back to the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed on 27 June the club were set to break the spending rules again for 2023-24 due to their difficult financial situation.

There have been suggestions Leicester may have complied with the PSR rules following the £30million sale of Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea on 2 July.

But Borson has dismissed those claims after admitting it’s hard to see how they haven’t committed a further breach.

“On my numbers, they are a long way short even with the Dewsbury-Hall sale,” Borson told Football Insider.

“I suspect it will have gone into their 2023-24 accounts because you still want to breach by as little as possible just to keep the penalty down.

“I think they will still have breached by a mile even if they did sell him in the year.

“It’s very hard to see how those numbers are wrong.

“There have been some rumours that they were okay with that sale, but I don’t see that at all on my numbers.”
