Leicester transfer news: ‘Major update as PSR fears block January signing’

Leicester City will not make a move for one of their January targets due to profit and sustainability (PSR) fears, talkSPORT reports.

The Foxes have made the decision to sign Parma’s Woyo Coulibaly for just £3million as they attempt to survive relegation from the Premier League, as they can’t afford Kyle Walker-Peters.

The Frenchman was not the first choice for the Midlands side, as their PSR concerns have priced them out of a deal for Walker-Peters, despite him being available for only £7million.

The Englishman has only six months remaining on his current deal with Southampton, who also find themselves in a desperate bid for survival.

Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that Leicester are definitely on course to fail PSR.

Football Insider Verdict

The PSR concerns make this season an incredibly important one for the long-term future of the Foxes.

As reported by Keith Wyness exclusively to Football Insider, the threat of action being taken against them for their failing PSR would follow them to the Championship if they were to be relegated as the Premier League and EFL “are going to be chasing them now.”

If Leicester are to have any hopes of surviving in the short-term, creative deals are going to have to be made.

The Coulibaly deal is an un-inspiring one, the Frenchman has been poor for Parma in Serie A and is not an upgrade on the options they currently have, which says a lot.

Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters
Kyle Walker-Peters looks set to leave Southampton in January.

This leaves the Foxes in a predicament, they could look to assuage the Premier League by attempting to be more compliant with PSR, or go gung-ho and look to buy their way to as many points as possible through the transfer market.

The latter is a bold move, and one they are unlikely to make, but the Midlands side are reportedly weighing up making a move for Tottenham-target Thomas Kristensen who would definitely be an improvement to their back-line.

In other news, Jamie Vardy received a cheeky message from one of his teammates.
