Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury reacts to Kelechi Iheanacho amid uncertain future

Kelechi Iheanacho faces an uncertain future at Sevilla after failing to impress during his first season at the Spanish club.

The 28-year-old move to the La Liga side last summer following spells at Manchester City and Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Nigerian international was a prospect with City, but the club sold him to the Foxes in 2017 for £25million.

Iheanacho was loaned out for second half of the 24/25 season to Championship club Middlesborough, where he only managed to net one goal in 15 appearances.

Former Foxes team mate reacts to Iheanacho’s ‘joy’ message

Iheanacho took to his Instagram to post pictures of him at training with his Sevilla team mates, which was liked by Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury and striker Patson Daka.

The Foxes had a torrid season in the Premier League where they only collected 25 points from 38 matches to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Leicester sacked manager Ruud van Nistelrooy for their poor form, and have since confirmed the appointment of former QPR boss Marti Cifuentes to lead them into the Championship.

Football Insider Verdict

Iheanacho is looking to reignite his career with a possible move away from Sevilla for the upcoming campaign.

The Nigerian only appeared nine times for the club in his debut season, failing to score a goal, before he was loaned out to Middlesborough.

His spell at the Riverside will not have endorsed potential suitors this summer, but the striker has shown in glimpses whilst at Man City and Leicester that he has an eye for goal.

Opportunities at Man City were often from the substitutes bench, and Iheanacho was seen as a poacher in-front of goal.

The impact he made from the bench for City was not replicated on a consistent basis at Leicester when he started more regularly.

Iheanacho was also competing against Foxes legend Jamie Vardy, meaning that becoming the main man at the club was nearly impossible.

A move away from Sevilla seems inevitable, but interest is so far not forthcoming and Iheanacho needs regular minutes if he is to break into a Nigeria squad that could go to the 2026 World Cup should they overcome qualifying.
