Leif Davis sends four-word message to Liam Delap as Chelsea transfer confirmed
Liam Delap received an emotional farewell message from Leif Davis following the striker’s ambitious move to Chelsea this summer.
Following Ipswich Town‘s relegation to the Championship, a £30million release clause emerged in the 22-year-old’s contract at Portman Road, catching the attention of several Premier League teams.
He had finally made an incredible impression since leaving Man City‘s academy, notching 12 goals and two assists in 37 league matches, but it was enough to keep his team in the division.
Delap has even been tipped to snub his England Under-21s call-up in favour of the Blues’ Club World Cup this summer, and Enzo Maresca will be bursting to see what the player can do for the team.
However, in the wake of his departure from Ipswich, many of his friends and teammates have sent in messages, with one of the squad members from the 2024/25 campaign clearly emotional.

Taking to Instagram stories (4 June), Davis wrote: “Good luck, my brother,” with a blue heart emoji, having fought beside him during the Tractor Boys’ incredibly tough Premier League campaign.

Enzo Maresca welcomes incredible talent into Chelsea squad
Football Insider verdict
Maresca will be keen to build on the 2024/25 season, having qualified for the Champions League and lifted the Europa Conference League, all while under considerable pressure at Stamford Bridge.
Delap is likely to just be the first of multiple new signings made by the Blues this summer, though that will require some big-money exits to help fund a squad rebuild ahead of next season.
Chelsea are already open to offers for Noni Madueke, with Benoit Badiashile, Armando Broja, Christopher Nkunku, and Jadon Sancho all being linked with exits over the coming weeks.

Despite ending the campaign with so much success, it was not a simple journey for the Blues this season, facing plenty of adversity in the Premier League during the battle for a top-five finish.
If Chelsea want to finish in a similar position or higher next season, against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa, they must invest in the right places this summer.
Delap is already a great start to the transfer window, especially at such a low price, and supporters have every right to be getting excited over any potential deals from now until the end of the summer.
